There are professional boxers who see beyond the fame and glory of triumph. Erick Dynamite Vega is one of these quality boxers who jabs at faces instead of letting his success go to his head.
Vega who appeared on the internationally known TV Reality Show “The Contender”, contributed to Battle of Orange County, a charity event focused in raising funds for Life Rolls On Foundation, a nonprofit organization for young people with spinal cord injuries.
Erick Vega participated in promoting the December 13, 2008 event by raising awareness and making a guest appearance along with pro boxers Ross Puritty, David Nino Rodriguez, Tommy Morrison, Alfonso Gomez,John Brey, Henry Tillman, Austin Trout and UFC legend Ken Shamrock.
Vega was born and raised in El Paso; TX but now resides in Phoenix Arizona where he continues to purse his career in professional boxing. After losing in the 2004 Western trails Erick Vega graduated to the Olympic Qualifiers in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil by winning a spot on the Mexican Olympics.
In spite of only having started boxing in 2001, Vega has positioned his goal for a world championship in professional boxing. He is determined to become a world boxing champion.
“A lot of fighters of course set out to do that, but honestly if I felt any apprehension or doubt about that I would hang them up and would have never turned pro. Its not even about the money, though money never hurts, It’s about the ultimate and purest form of competition.” Says Vega.
What’s fascinating about Vega is his naturally humble demeanor. He is willing to put people in need before himself. He proved that by unconditionally helping the staff of Convicted Artist distribute fliers throughout the streets of Southern California on the day before the Battle of Orange County charity event. He also demonstrated his superb boxing skills and the power of his dynamite hands by hammering a few rounds on a punching bag. The 29 year old Vega currently holds a professional record of 8-2-1 with six knockouts.
