Janis Joplin

Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an prominent singer, poetic songwriter, and music arranger, from Port Arthur, Texas. Her unique music spread like an epidemic in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later as a solo artist. Janis Joplin brought her strong, throaty voice from small town Port Arthur Tx to big city San Francisco’s hippie scene, where she went from Texas nobody to International superstar.

Joplin had often sought peace of mind in drugs and alcohol, and unfortunately passed away of a heroin overdose in a Hollywood hotel room on October 4, 1970.
