We've discovered a thing or two after attending California's Ink N Iron Car & Art Show, as well as car shows throughout southern California. For one, each city in the states southern region has its own distinctive style. While old Los Angeles holds a title belt for Pachuco bombs and custom lowriders, it's younger Orange County sister experienced an "identity crisis" of some sort.
This "identity crisis" in turn gave birth to the "rockabilly" sub-culture in Long Beach, California. The rockabilly is a mixture of rock 'n' roll and hillbilly, the former an orientation to 1940s and 1950s country music. The impact and recognition of the style vanished in the 1960s, but reemerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The style spread throughout Long Beach and is still popular today among people of every race.
While traditional pachuco style bomb collectors value the more popular Chevy classic, Long Beach rockabilly's favor more unconventional classic rides; rare cars such as Lincoln, Ford and Dodge. Rockabilly's tend to also value art & tattoos. Evidence of this may be seen every year at the Ink N Iron Art & Car Show in Long Beach. The style is catchy and seems to be making its way to Arizona, Nevada and Texas.
