BOXING IN MEXICO CITY

Mexico City has always been notorious for it's several revolutionary battles throughout history, but the war that went down on September 27th 2008 didn’t involve bullets as usual. This battle consisted of fists and the wonderful art of boxing.

Undefeated heavy weight boxer David Rodriguez and his trainer, former light weight champion Louie Burke journeyed off to the capitol of Mexico to full fill Rodriguez's life long dream of winning the World Boxing Council Mexico Heavyweight championship.

Rodriquez achieved that by knocking out his opponent Robert Davis in the first round.
This great boxing event was full of action and featured the fights of boxers WBO light fly weight champion Edgar Sosa of Mexico vs. OPBF light fly weight champion Sonny Boy Joros of the Philippines, Mexico’s Reyes Sanchez vs.  Ali Chebah of France, female fighters Mariana Juarez of Mexico vs. Great Britain’s Warner as well as several other bloody matches.

Boxer Quotes

“You have to know you can win. You have to think you can win. You have to feel you can win.”
Sugar Ray Leonard quotes (American Boxer (Oly-gold-1976), b.1956)

I'm scared every time I go into the ring, but it's how you handle it. What you have to do is plant your feet, bite down on your mouthpiece and say, 'Let's go.'

Mike Tyson

"From now on, match me with one guy at a time."

"For the first and only time, I was more worried about getting hurt by the crowd than by the guy I was fighting. I got a pretty good blast when introduced. The crowd was hollering and raising hell. I looked around for my bodyguard, a colorful New York character named Wild Bill Lyons, who packed two pearl-handled pistols and used to talk a lot about his days in the West. Wild Bill was under the ring, hiding."
Jack Dempsey about being introduced to the crowd at the Dempsey/Gibbons fight in Shelby, Montana July 4, 1923
Harry Greb to his manager after a bout with Mike Gibbons

“It is not the size of a man but the size of his heart that matters.”
Evander Holyfield quotes

“I want to hit him, step away and watch him hurt. I want his heart.”
Joe Frazier quotes (American Boxer, b.1944)

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.”
Muhammad Ali quotes (American Boxer and Activist, b.1942)

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.
