Rodriguez defeats Dyer!
The co-main event featured a battle of the unbeaten heavyweights as the hometown heavyweight David Rodriguez 26-0 (25 KO’s) scored a second round TKO over the 6’9” former undefeated Rick Dyer 13-1 (13 KO’s) keeping the El Paso natives unblemished record intact.
The tough Texan had trouble at first with the 6’9” 270-pound plus Oklahoman whose size and awkwardness has gave many fits in prior fights, but after Rodriguez found his range it did not take long for Dyer to fall, who hit the canvas from a heavy Rodriguez right hand near the end of round one.
Give the big man his props for coming out in round two with wobbly legs to only be met by more punishment from Rodriguez hitting the deck once again. All though Dyer did beat the ten count the big man was defeated when he turned his back from the action prompting referee Sam Garza to call a halt to the bout at 45-seconds of the second round.
The win gave Rodriguez his twenty-sixth consecutive triumph; his seventh back-to-back knock out victory, as Dyer drops his first defeat in his three years of participating in the pugilistic sport. For Dyer, it is back to the drawing board, but no doubt plans on returning soon, for Rodriguez, it is off to bigger bouts and hopefully a run to the title.
