Rocky Marciano
Also known as the Legendary "Brockton Blockbuster", Rocky Marciano held the heavyweight boxing title for four years during the 1950s. He is the only boxing champion to ever retire undefeated.
Born:Rocco Francis Marchegiano, Sept. 1, 1923, Brockton, MA
Died: August 31, 1969 Des Moines, Iowa
Professional Record:49 -Wins 49 -Wins by KO 43 -Losses 0 -Draws 0 -No contests 0
On Sept 21, 1955, Marciano knocked out Archie Moore in his final fight of his long career, allowing him to retire as heavyweight champion with a ruthless 49-0 record. At 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, he was a small heavyweight fighter. His reach was the shortest of any heavyweight champ in boxing history, and his boxing style was dirty, better suited for prison yard brawling than pro fighting. But he was an expert in the art of fighting.
